Pridnestrovian and Abkhazian presidents make joint statement

They highly assessed the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership between the countries and expressed the hope that the document would give new impetus to the two-state relationship

Tiraspol, 29 September. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. After signing the treaty, Vadim Krasnoselsky and Raul Khadzhimba made a joint statement, the press service of the Pridnestrovian president reports. They highly assessed the renewed treaty between the two countries and expressed the hope that would give new impetus to the two-state relationship.

Krasnoselsky noted that Abkhazia's independence was based on the age-old traditions and feat of its people. "The Pridnestrovian and Abkhazian peoples have much in common:  both countries were formed as a result of a geopolitical catastrophe called the collapse of the Soviet Union. But we have not lost ourselves. Despite all the risks, the Abkhazian people have gone the path of survival. They did not want to be dissolved on the world map and won. Today's Abkhazia is a recognised and independent country, which is a guarantee of your security," said Krasnoselsky. He underscored that the renewed treaty — the previous version being signed in 1993 — would add new content to existing economic and cultural agreements.

Khadzhimba also pointed out the similar destinies of the Pridnestrovian and Abkhazian peoples: both countries had gone a difficult path of development. Thousands of civilian lives had been put on the altar of victory.

The Abkhazian president noted that relations between the countries were developing in various ways and that the intensity of cooperation was growing despite economic, political and humanitarian problems.

Khadzhimba declared that the negotiations had reaffirmed the convergence of the Pridnestrovian and Abkhazian approaches to key international problems, including the common interest in developing and strengthening full-scale cooperation with Russia.

"We highly assess the renewed Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership between Abkhazia and the PMR, which creates a new enabling environment for political dialogue and cooperation between our countries and reaffirms the mutual legal recognition of our countries," said Khadzhimba.
