Tiraspol, 24 August. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Moldova, through its permanent representative to the United Nations, has requested the Organization to include the question of the withdrawal of Russian peacekeepers from Pridnestrovie to the agenda of the regular session of the UN General Assembly. Commenting on the situation to Russia's Izvestia daily, President Krasnoselsky noted that the withdrawal of Russian peacekeepers from Pridnestrovie would mean the beginning of a war in the region.

«Peace in our land is secured by the peacekeeping forces, especially the Russian contingent. And if the peacekeepers are pulled out, a war will begin. The Constitutional Court of Moldova has declared this land occupied. This means military force can be used. Tiraspol objects to the withdrawal of peacekeepers. This is out of question for us. These decisions cannot be made without the opinion of the Pridnestrovian people. A war will start here without peacekeepers. Those who want the peacekeepers to be withdrawn wants war," said Krasnoselsky.

The president recalled that Moldova had joined the UN on 2 March 1992, on the very day when it had started aggression against Pridnestrovie. On that day, special police forces of Moldova attacked Dubossary and the houses of Russian officers. In this context, Vadim Krasnoselsky called Moldova's appeal to the UN «a whim of fate and history». According to him, the UN is «caught in the loop with democratic centralism», that is, listens only to «recognised conflicting parties, ignoring those unrecognised.»

«Were the United Nations to listen to our position, many would probably change their opinion," said Vadim Krasnoselsky.
