Tiraspol, 5 June. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Russia's vice premier Dmitry Rogozin has called the actions taken by the Moldovan government to stifle Pridnestrovie's economy stupid and short-sighted.
«Trying to stifle the Pridnestrovian economy, the Moldovan government wants to force the republic to its knees. This is stupid and short-sighted," Rogozin wrote on his Facebook page.
Previously, the Pridnestrovian People's Front requested Russian President Vladimir Putin to prevent the blockade of Pridnestrovie from being tightened by Moldova and Ukraine. The letter they sent says that the authorities of Moldova and Ukraine, with the financial and expert assistance of the EU, have started to establish joint customs and border control over the Pridnestrovian section of the border. The document underscores that these actions have not been agreed with Tiraspol and go counter to the agreements reached in the «5+5» format.
The actions by Kiev and Kishinev may lead to an annual loss of $40 million, which is about a fifth of the budget, and nearly 10% of the country's citizens will lose their jobs and means of support. With the absence of Russian peacekeepers, the deployment of Moldova's customs and border guard officers at the Pridnestrovian border may also provoke a confrontation between the conflicting parties.
