Slobodzeya district, 19 May. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Solemn celebrations dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the day when the 1st Detached Engineer Battalion came under the jurisdiction of the PMR were held today in Parkany village. After a flower-laying ceremony at the Memorial to the field engineers who died in 1992, Vadim Krasnoselsky talked to journalists.
The president underscored that at that time decisions had been aimed at protecting the native land from the aggressor.
«Today we pay tribute to the memory of the first commanders, officers and soldiers who on the call of souls made a decision to come under the jurisdiction of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. This decision was not spontaneous, but absolutely conscious and patriotic. The people knew that might lead to both honour and oblivion, but they determined to take this step to protect our land against the aggressor," said the president.
As Novosti Pridnestrovya has already reported, the president awarded the detached engineer battalion the guards and honorary title. Now it is called the 1st Guards Detached Engineer Parkany Battalion.
«This is absolutely well-deserved both under army regulations and in terms of its deployment, hence 'Parkany'. It was the request of the veterans who made the decision in 1992 to come under the jurisdiction of Pridnestrovie," noted Vadim Krasnoselsky.
The journalists asked the president if the recent incident with reinforced inspection and interrogation of a Russian serviceman at Kishinev Airport was a consequence of the decision by the Constitutional Court of Moldova actually recognising the Russian peacekeepers as «occupants». According to Vadim Krasnoselsky, such actions by Moldova are very dangerous.
«I divide such actions by Moldovan politicians into two categories. The first category includes those who deliberately harms relations with Pridnestrovie and try to build a unipolar world in the region. Those belonging to the second category silently observe the processes and does absolutely nothing to eliminate the negative trends. That what happened at the airport might have resulted from the decision of the Constitutional Court of Moldova or might have been done under the influence of Moldovan political hawks. But this is all wrong and very dangerous. No one is allowed to detain a Russian officer, especially on the territory where a peacekeeping mission is being carried out. You should be responsible for your decisions and be able to eventually answer for them," underscored the president.
