Pridnestrovians take part in this year's first canoeing competitions

Many of them became prize winners

Tiraspol, 17 April. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Russia's Krasnodar hosted the championship of Russia and the All-Russian Canoeing and Kayaking Competition from 8 to 11 April. These are the first official rowing events in the new season. Men and women over 15 were allowed to compete.

Nearly 300 athletes from 28 regions of Russia took part in single races. Among them were Pridnestrovian canoeists — trainees of Tiraspol, Bendery, Dubossary, Rybnitsa and Dnestrovsk rowing schools. They all represent various Russian regions.

The Russian championship included 2000m events, and the all-Russian competition 200m, 1000m and 5000m events. Women's 1000m distance was halved.

Tiraspol canoeist Kirill Shamshurin showed the best result among Pridnestrovian athletes, with gold in the 1000m and 2000m events and silver in the 5000m.

Vladislav Chebotar and Oleg Shurinkin won bronze medals in the C-1 1000m and C-1 5000m, respectively. Besides, Shurinkin took part in two final heats.

Kayakers Sergey Filin and Ivan Epishin were finalists in the 200m and 1000m events and Zoya Manayeva in the 2000m event. Alyona Verbina showed a decent result in the 5000m (10th) and Vlad Oleynik in the sprint (12th).

The next competition takes place in Krasnodar at the beginning of May. The Cup of Russia will be a qualifier for the World Cup, whose first stage will be held in Portugal on 12 — 14 May.
