Tiraspol, 12 April. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The Supreme Council of the PMR has passed a draft law on second reading authorising the use of the Russian flag along with the national one. As the bill specifies, the change in the use of state symbols is due to the commitment of the people of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic to unity and the desire to reunite with the Russian Federation in accordance with the will expressed in the referendum of 17 September 2006.
«The national flag of Russia raises a lasting association in the Pridnestrovian people with the Russian state, the multi-ethnic people of Russia, part of which the multi-ethnic people of Pridnestrovie feel themselves, and this association has a solid historical basis," he explanatory note reads.
It is specially emphasised, in the meantime, that the use of Russian symbols will not affect the status of the Pridnestrovian flag.
The Russian flag will be placed on and in the premises of state authorities and local government, as well as during official events.
«Raising the national flag of the Russian Federation along with the flag of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic on all governmental buildings will signify the strengthening of Pridnestrovian statehood and the marking of a new stage in the PMR's integration with Russia," the bill's authors believe.
When simultaneously hoisted, Pridnestrovie's national flag should be placed on the left side of a building and the Russian tricolour on the right side.
The bill also establishes liability for breaching the PMR's laws on the use of foreign national symbols.
