Tiraspol, 6 March. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The president of the PMR has appointed today Aleksey Tsurkan as deputy chairman of the government on strategic development and reforms.

On assuming the office, he thanked the president for the trust, emphasising that he would do «everything possible for the course for strategic transformation to be feasible and executable," the government's press service reports.

«Of course, all our decisions should be calculated, reasonable, and the ultimate objective of their implementation must be the benefit of the citizens," said Aleksey Tsurkan at a meeting with the prime minister.

It was noted during the meeting that reforms in Pridnestrovie have long been overdue and are needed for further development of the republic. As Alexander Martynov noted, changes are needed in terms of raising fiscal discipline, optimising the tax burden, enhancing the investment climate, optimising the state's role in the economy.

«We need to carefully analyse these points as there are excessive administrative obstacles today, which are particularly imposed on businessmen. All this hinders the economic development of our republic, hinders the improvement of our citizens' welfare," concluded Alexander Martynov.

However, according to the prime minister, it is necessary to adhere to the principle underlying Russian reforms.

«You need the head to succeed in reforms, and, at the same time, you need the heart not to lose people's trust. Any step that is connected with changes, transformations should be weighed against how it may affect the standard of living. Any reforms must be carried out with the support of the population. Citizens must understand why these reforms are conducted, to which extent they are transparent and which effect they will produce. And together with civil society, we will achieve a result," underscored Martynov.
