Tiraspol, 12 January. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. President Krasnoselsky took part in a meeting of the advisory council of the first Pridnestrovian MPs. The main topic discussed by the council was the negotiating process between Pridnestrovie and the Republic of Moldova.
The head of state informed the first MPs on the outcome of his meeting with the Moldovan president, which took place on 4 January in Bendery,
He pointed out that the meeting was held on the initiative of the Moldovan side and was mostly of an introductory character.
"We voiced anyway the basic issues of concern to Pridnestrovian citizens. My main principle underlying this meeting was that there is no need to discuss political issues. Because we have determined our status – the independence of the PMR. I have a strong belief in the idea that the guarantee of our security is our independence. Only on an independent basis can we defend our legal interests amid difficult geopolitical environment around Pridnestrovie," underscored Krasnoselsky.
During the meeting, the Pridnestrovian president told his Moldovan colleague about numerous economic, humanitarian and cultural problems.
"When making decisions, politicians should not infringe the rights of both Pridnestrovian and Moldovan citizens. We must find a compromise that will facilitate the lives of citizens," Krasnoselsky believes.
According to him, an understanding was found on a range of issues. First of all, this refers to the peacekeeping operation conducted in the region by Russia for nearly 25 years.
"I saw the understanding on the part of the Moldovan president, who also understands that the format cannot be changed and all these statements by red-hot politicians about a green corridor and so on are groundless and provocative. And I told him that if we lost the Russian peacekeepers on the Dniester banks, we could lose both Moldova and Pridnestrovie.
The presidents also discussed the problem of blocking the meetings of the governing body of the peacekeeping operation.
"It was decided that the co-chairs from Moldova, Pridnestrovie and Russia would meet and elaborate a mechanism to unblock the work of the JCC [Joint Control Commission].
Special attention was given to the issues of communication and unblocking railway traffic through Pridnestrovie.
"We agreed that the sides would develop a package of proposals that can be implemented. I am convinced it is necessary to make decisions in the field of economy, free movement, recognition of documents and licence plates," concluded the president.
The first Pridnestrovian MPs wished the president to successfully resolve the problems existing between the sides and affecting the lives of both Moldovan and Pridnestrovian citizens.
In the meantime, the founding fathers of the republic recommended the president to pass a law on the principles and goals of the negotiating process with Moldova which could serve as a roadmap.
They also touched upon the necessity of boosting relations with Russia and opening Russia's consulate general in Tiraspol.
