Bendery, 15 September. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The governing body of the peacekeeping operation gathered today for its first meeting after the scheduled break. JCC participants held organizational arrangements: they confirmed the appointment of Russia's military observer and assessed the situation in the Security Zone over the past eight weeks.
As Pridnestrovie's JCC co-chair Oleg Belyakov noted in an interview with Novosti Pridnestrovya, no serious incidents had been detected over this period; the situation had remained stable and controllable.
There was also an exchange of views on a number of issues. The Pridnestrovian side noted the importance of adopting a collegial decision on the problem of flights in the Security Zone. A number of airspace violations with the involvement of Romanian aircraft had taken place earlier, in April.
«We are doing our best to prevent a recurrence of this situation, to ensure the coordination of all these issues exclusively with the JCC," said Oleg Belyakov.
The Moldovan side, in turn, brought up an issue of conducting military exercises near the Security Zone.
«We are ready to discuss it as well because this subject matter is becoming urgent. We see that the Moldovan side also involves in exercises in the Security Zone the units that have nothing to do with the peacekeeping operation. Let's recall the incident of 2015 where the National Army of Moldova and the US National Guards were conducting joint exercises in the Security Zone. These are the challenges for the JCC to address. And while we are addressing them, we can speak about the efficiency of our work," concluded the co-chair.
