Tiraspol, 31 August. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The head of the public movement For Recognition of Pridnestrovie, Vyacheslav Tolbukh, expressed support for the policy of seeking compromise in negotiations with Moldova voiced by Pridnestrovian President Yevgeny Shevchuk during his press conference.
«Every reasonable person realises that bad peace is better than a good war, and it is natural that the main formula of such an approach is what the president voiced. The language of ultimatums is not the best way of negotiating," said Tobukh.
He noted that Moldova and Pridnestrovie should negotiate as two equal parties and build their relations based on mutual interests.
Vyacheslav Tobukh also agreed to the statement by Yevgeny Shevchuk that Pridnestrovie's foreign policy vector should be determined by the people
«According to our Constitution, it is the people that determine both domestic and foreign policy, elect both representative bodies and the president. On 17 September 20016, 97% of voters chose the recognition of the PMR and subsequent accession to the Russian Federation as a federal subject," said the chief of the movement.
According to Tobukh, in the past 10 years after the referendum the opinion of Pridnestrovians is unlikely to have changed and the majority of the population still support the policy towards the independence of the PMR and rapprochement with Russia; therefore, it is not necessary so far to spend funds for a new referendum. The head of the public movement, however, did not rule out the possibility of holding such plebiscites in the future.
«If the international community stipulated through the UN’s mediation that the world will recognise us as a result of the next referendum, it would not be a problem to organise another people's voting," concluded the public activist.
