Tiraspol, 31 May. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Today, the parliamentary committee on legislation, law enforcement bodies, defence, security, peacekeeping activities, protection of citizens' freedoms and liberties have considered a draft law amending the Penal Code of the PMR.
The bill criminalises the denial of the positive role of Russia's peacekeeping mission in Pridnestrovie.
In case the draft law is passed, public actions and statements, including through the use of the media or public telecommunications networks, such as the Internet, expressing a blatant disregard for the peacekeeping operation conducted by the Russian Federation in the PMR and aimed at distorting its positive role will be punished by a fine at an amount of 500−1,000 estimated rates of minimum wages (RUMZP) or imprisonment of up to 3 (three) years.
«The successfulness and efficiency of the peacekeeping mission is secured by Pridnestrovian citizens' positive attitude towards the operation, which was proved, among other occasions, at nation-wide referendums, conducted in Pridnestrovie and testifying to citizens' desire to maintain this only guarantee mechanism of real peace and stability," reads the explanatory note to the draft law.
It was noted at the meeting that adopting this law today is very relevant in the light of speculations on the subject of peacekeeping operation.
«This measure will contribute to the strengthening of the operation's image and authority," said Oleg Belyakov.
The bill has been recommended for approval in two readings.
