Oleg Belyakov: Moldova's position aims to disrupt JCC meetings and undermine elements of peacekeeping operation

Bendery, 12 May. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. A regular meeting of the Joint Control Commission (JCC) took place in Bendery. At the beginning the Pridnestrovian side expressed concern over unsanctioned flights in the Security Zone and argued for placing this issue on the agenda. The Moldovan side, however, refused to discuss this subject and, as a result, the meeting was postponed.

«The Pridnestrovian delegation is pointing out Moldova's steady position aimed at disrupting JCC meetings and undermining the elements of the peacekeeping operation," Pridnestrovie's co-chair to the JCC, Oleg Belyakov, told journalists.

He said that the Moldovan side is still refusing to discuss issues directly relating to the peacekeeping operation, taking into consideration the unresolved problem of freedom of movement in the Security Zone. The corresponding projects were submitted by the Pridnestrovian delegation, but Kishinev officials ignore them.

«The Pridnestrovian side has twice submitted its vision of the issue to the JCC, including the term 'freedom of movement'. And these projects have been backed by the Russian delegation. We know the Moldovan side has no clear understanding of the notion of 'freedom of movement'. They call it a philosophic question… We understand this political decision (a refusal to discuss other issues, ed.), made by the Moldovan side, is aimed at narrowing JCC powers so that it could not solve the global problems it encounters," said the co-chair.

The Pridnestrovian side released an official statement within the JCC meeting.
