OLEG BELYAKOV: RUSSIA IS STILL THE GUARANTEEING AND INTEGRATING LINK OF THE PEACEKEEPING OPERATION

The head of the Pridnestrovian delegation to the JCC told about how the peacekeeping forces entered the Security Zone

Tiraspol, August, 1. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Today the Day of Remembrance and Mourning for the dead and deceased defenders of the PMR is celebrated in Pridnestrovie. The war ended on July 21, 1992 with the signing of the Agreement on the Principles for the Peaceful Settlement of the Conflict on the Dniester in Moscow.

Oleg Belyakov, co-chair of the JCC from Pridnestrovie, told about how the historical document came to life in an interview with the Novosti Pridnestrovya News Agency.

“On July 27, the Joint Control Commission was formed, which immediately began to create a document on the Security Zone. And the next days, on the 28-29th of July, the procedures related to the deployment of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces began. The Russian contingent was the first to enter the Security Zone, being an integral part of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces. The deployment of the peacekeeping force continued until August 4: Moldovan and Pridnestrovian divisions entered, which took the places of deployment determined by the decisions of the JCC,” Oleg Belyakov said.

He emphasized that it was the leading, coordinating role of the Russian Federation in the peacekeeping operation that was the main irritant for official Chisinau, which constantly declared the need to change the peacekeeping format and the withdrawal of Russian troops.

“At the meetings of the JCC, the senior military commander represents the Russian Federation, the representatives of the Russian Federation are appointed commandants of Bendery and Dubossary, all the senior in posts and in groups of military observers are from Russia. Some people really don’t like that the Russian Federation plays the leading part. It is still the guaranteeing and integrating link,” Belyakov concluded.
