Bendery, July, 18. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The Co-Chairman of the Joint Control Commission (JCC) from Pridnestrovie considers dangerous and unacceptable Moldova`s threats to block the main artery connecting Chisinau and Tiraspol. Oleg Belyakov said that in an interview with journalists at the end of the next meeting of the governing body of the peacekeeping operation.
“Violations of human rights, even in those territories that are not yet recognized, are impossible. This is a UN decision, and in this part, people's rights must be respected. Blocking roads, interfering with the movement of people is strictly prohibited by the 1992 agreement,” Belyakov emphasized.
According to him, the Pridnestrovian side, in turn, does not impose any sanctions or restrictions.
“If there are any elements of control, then there are the same on the Moldovan side. Therefore, it is surprising to us when these theses are heard in the Joint Control Commission,” the Co-Chairman noted.
Last week, the Moldovan delegation in the JCC distributed a statement in which it was stated that in case of a change in the infrastructure at the Bendery checkpoint, Chisinau would consider the possibility of blocking the transport communication through this CCI.
It should be recalled that in May it was proposed to increase the number of lanes at the Bendery Chamber of Commerce and Industry for tourists. Registration for it is planned to be carried out in an expedited manner. In addition, it is planned to issue these roadsides` users tourist passport.
Oleg Belyakov noted that the Republic of Moldova has been creating a negative background around the work of Pridnestrovian checkpoints for a long time and, in particular, the presence of border services on them. And this negatively affects the work of the JCC as a whole. Today, the parties could not agree on the agenda for more than two hours.
“We must perfectly understand that law enforcement agencies, including border guards, clearly perform their functions, are responsible for the seizure of weapons, ammunition and drugs. They provide security. The military observers visited the site repeatedly and recorded that the border guards were serving without weapons,” the Co-Chair pointed out.
After the meeting opening, the commission considered a number of issues relating to various aspects of peacekeeping. In particular, the delegations agreed on the venue of the next anniversary of the beginning of the peacekeeping operation. The event will be held at the Headquarters of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces in Bendery. The Moldovan side officially confirmed its participation in the events (the Moldovan representatives have not participated in joint events for two years in a row). The Joint Military Command is entrusted to develop the plan for the festive events.
