Tiraspol, 15 March. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The Pridnestrovian Humanitarian Fund (PHF) was established in 2009. Today, President Yevgeny Shevchuk commented on its work in an interview on Radio 1.
«Not a budget kopeck or rouble have been assigned to the Pridnestrovian Humanitarian Fund," emphasised the head of state.
Shevchuk specified that at the moment of the establishment the then-applicable legislation allowed the founders to use the word «Pridnestrovian» in the fund’s name.
«Later it changed but did not stipulate anyway for the renaming of organisations whose names have this word. With regard to the returns of the fund's expenses, I want to note that this is a non-government and non-commercial organisation, that is, it does not profit from its activities. The fund pursues humanitarian goals. The information about the fund's expenses is available on its official website," declared Yevgeny Shevchuk.
The head of state reminded the audience that among the objects encompassed by the PHF are Tiraspol's Military Glory Memorial with artistic illumination of a tank monument and a chapel, as well as the illumination of the bridge across the Dniester, the Palace of Youth's Creativity, Aranetskaya Pridnestrovian Theatre, churches in Tiraspol and Rybmitsa. Besides, the fund has helped repair the centre of Tiraspol, including the central pharmacy, former polyclinic No. 3 in 25 October St. The reconstruction of the polyclinic has cost over $2 million, according to the president. Soon it will be put in operation.
The PHF has assigned means for the purchase of 50 interactive whiteboards for schools, repair of public schools, and supply of spare materials for minor and current repair works.
Among the objects encompassed by the PHF is also an up-to-date medical centre in Rybnitsa. The fund has helped repair Rybnitsa's House of Culture and city embankment.
«The PHF has assigned $1 million to purchase modern medical equipment. Another major investor in Pridnestrovie is ANO Eurasian Integration. These projects are being carried out simultaneously. They have helped to solve a number of important issues. 2015 was difficult in terms of financing wages and pensions. At the same time, it was the most effective year as to the amount of repair works accomplished. For example, 80 educational facilities have been repaired," said the president.
Yevgeny Shevchuk also mentioned that education and healthcare are the state's priorities.
«These are investments in human capital, in our future. Now one of abandoned medical facilities in Sverdlov St, Tiraspol, is being reconstructed. We hope the works will be finished this year. Tiraspol's central diagnostic centre will also be put in commission soon. It will admit patients from all over Tiraspol. New medical equipment has already been bought for the centre," said Yevgeny Shevchuk.
He added that the government planned to build three diagnostic centres — in Tiraspol, Rybnitsa and Bendery.
«We haven't managed to build one in Benderry so far because of a lack of financial resources. When we have enough funds, we will proceed to it," promised the head of state.
He also recalled the audience of a high mortality rate the country used to have due to a lack of modern medical equipment.
«Thanks to the funds assigned by the PHF, some mortality indicators have improved. In 2015, new equipment saved the lives of 96 newborns at Tiraspol's Centre of Mother and Child," concluded the president.
