Ministry of Social Protection and Labour believes child's preservation in family a priority

"The ministry and government's task is to preserve the family. If the family is preserved, this guarantees a child's preservation in this family," underscored the head of the Ministry of Social Protection and Labour, Oxana Bulanova, on the air of Pridnestrovie's First Channel

She said that in June 2013 MPs had submitted a draft law on social and legal protection from domestic violence to the Supreme Council. The draft law had received a negative opinion from the government.

"Which means Pridnestrovie was not ready for and did not agree with the norms stipulated in this bill. We have ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child, and our legislation aims at preserving a child in the family and preserving the family as a social unit. The active laws stipulate the procedure and possibility of deprivation of paternal rights and removal of a child from the family. Nobody has amended them. They have been valid for 25 years in our republic and had been borrowed from the Soviet legislation," remarked Oxana Bulanova.

According to her, the ministry has received of late more than 400 letters and addresses from the Pridnestrovians. "Based on the questions posed in them, we believe the government is on the right track, and our negative stance on this bill is in full compliance with our citizens' opinion," she underscored.

The minister also remarked that the interagency cooperation helps to reveal at the proper time this or that family in trouble. "However, by no means does it mean that a child should be removed from the family. It only means that the family needs a government assistance," concluded Oxana Bulanova.
