Bender, January 9. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. One of the main reasons for the energy crisis that has arisen in Pridnestrovie is the lack of normal dialogue between our republic and the Moldovan authorities. This was stated by the President of the PMR Vadim Krasnoselsky at today's meeting with the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Elina Valtonen. This is the source of almost all the problems that exist today in the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian settlement.
"We do not have a normal negotiation process with Moldova. I am deeply convinced that if the "5+2" format existed, and its corresponding mechanisms (working groups, etc.) worked, then today's crisis would be impossible. And this is precisely the area that the OSCE supervises," the head of state said. He recalled the main negotiating mechanism that operated until relatively recently and allowed for finding common ground between the two states at the negotiating table. This is the 5+2 format, of which the OSCE is also a participant (as a mediator). Legally, this mechanism exists, but in reality it has not been working for more than 5 years.
“Why did this happen? Back in October 2019, it was the Moldovan side that disrupted the signing of the final agreement of the 5+2 format. At that time, Moldovan officials set the goal of destroying the 5+2 format. And after 2019, it was no longer assembled. We can name the reasons, subjective, objective (the coronavirus pandemic, the war in Ukraine), but, in my opinion, all of these are excuses. It is the absence of the 5+2 format, the negotiation process as such, that leads to situations like this,” Vadim Krasnoselsky recalled.
He emphasized that since Maia Sandu was elected as the President of Moldova (since her first term), he has repeatedly proposed to meet to discuss and resolve issues that are most pressing for both countries. However, this proposal from Tiraspol has not found a response from Chisinau.
"As a leader, as a manager, I have always felt that there is insufficient communication. And I have written to Madam Sandu, the President of Moldova, more than once, in order to hold meetings at the highest level to discuss the problems that exist. But, unfortunately, there have been no responses," the President of the PMR noted.
During a conversation with Elina Valtonen, who has just assumed her duties in this position, Vadim Krasnoselsky emphasized that establishing a dialogue between Pridnestrovie and Moldova is precisely within the scope of the OSCE.
"I am ready for dialogue now, there are no questions. There is much to discuss, the agenda is huge, including the energy crisis. Therefore, I still count on a dialogue for the future... The "5+2" format has the right to exist, I hope that all parties to this format will reject all prejudices and gather for a meeting," the head of state emphasized. At the same time, Vadim Krasnoselsky noted that for him, as the head of state, it is important to solve problems not for a short period, but for the long term, so that the residents of Pridnestrovie are confident in the future. This also concerns the provision of necessary energy resources.
