In case of gas supply interruption, Moldavskaya GRES (Cuciurgan power station) will switch to coal

This will allow for 50 days serving the republic's humanitarian needs for electricity

Tiraspol, December 12. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/.  The Government discussed the work of the republic's supply enterprises in the event of a gas supply interruption.

"We have worked out the issue with Moldavskaya GRES that in the absence of gas, coal-fired electricity generation will be launched in an emergency mode. The volume of such electricity production is limited, of course. And it will be of an exclusively humanitarian nature. The announced period of 50 days is the period during which electricity will be generated for humanitarian needs and for the needs of enterprises that ensure food security in Pridnestrovie," Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Economic Development Sergei Obolonik said.

Recall that the possibility of stopping gas supplies to the territory of the PMR from January 1, 2025 was discussed at a meeting of the Security Council under the President of the PMR on December 6. On December 11, the Supreme Council approved the Decree of the President of the PMR Vadim Krasnoselsky on the introduction of a state of emergency. The crisis situation with gas supplies to Pridnestrovie arose due to the lack of an agreement on gas transit from January 1, 2025. As Vadim Krasnoselsky noted, neither Russia nor Ukraine want to impede gas supplies to Pridnestrovie. At the same time, the Moldovan authorities are unwilling to solve the problem that has arisen.
