Expert: Chisinau did not consider Pridnestrovians as equal party

Political scientist Sergei Shirokov commented on the situation with the referendum in Moldova

Tiraspol, October 18. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Combining the elections of the President of the Republic of Moldova and the referendum on the attitude towards the EU is a trick aimed at increasing the percentage of those who voted for one of the candidates. This opinion was expressed in an interview with the First Pridnestrovian TV Channel by the director of the political research bureau "Mediator" Sergei Shirokov.

"Why didn't they ask the citizens of Moldova a year ago, two years ago, when Moldova received the status of a candidate country? This is the favorite tool of Moldovan politicians: when there are no economic or social results, they turn on the geopolitical choice mode," the political scientist noted. "That is, everyone who is for European integration should support a specific candidate."

As for Moldova’s refusal to open polling stations in Pridnestrovie, this, according to Sergei Shirokov, should not even be surprising, since official Chisinau has never considered either the government or society of Pridnestrovie as an equal party.
