Rally participants talk about the economic blockade of Moldova

Residents of Pridnestrovie expressed their position on illegal customs duties

Tiraspol, January 24. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Residents of various settlements of the republic took part in today’s rally against Moldova’s economic pressure on Pridnestrovie. These are representatives of enterprises and private companies, students and teachers, employees of various ministries and departments, public organizations - about 50 thousand people in total.

Valentina Ivanovna from Slobodzeya considers it her duty to speak out in defense of the rights of Pridnestrovians.

“I came to the rally because something like this shouldn’t continue. All these blockades lead to one thing - the impoverishment of the population of the republic! We cannot keep silent! We simply don’t have the right!” resident of Slobodzeya noted.

A representative of the Union of Defenders of Pridnestrovie in the Slobodzeya Region noted that in 1992 Pridnestrovians defended the right to live on this land, speak their native language and be masters in their own place.

“We have the legal right to be and organize our own economic space in the way we consider correct and necessary. We should not contribute anything to the budget of Moldova, just as we should not register our economic agents there. Money paid by our enterprises and individual entrepreneurs should only go to the Pridnestrovian budget. We have programs that require financial investments, especially in the social sphere,” the PMR defender said.

Lyudmila, resident of Tiraspol, together with other residents of the republic, presented a united front against the robbery of Pridnestrovie.

“Economic pressure may result in high prices for Pridnestrovie. First of all, these are food, medicines and other goods needed in everyday life. All this will affect every resident of the country. We are doing everything possible to be heard, that’s why we are here today,” a resident of the capital said.

Maxim, student from the Blizhny Khutor village is among the protesters. The young man studies at the Faculty of Agricultural Technology of PSU. In this way, he expresses his civic position on the economic blockade of Pridnestrovie.

“I want to support our state. I think that today we are doing something important, we are clearly demonstrating our dissatisfaction with the one-sided policy of Moldova. We need to respond properly to the environment. If we keep silent, the situation will not be resolved, while the consequences can be quite serious,” the student says.

A representative of the Memory Union says that the new duties will burn the ordinary people`s pockets. An economic blockade could mean famine for Pridnestrovie.

“I don’t have enough patience. Something needs to be done. Pensioners will not have enough money for food or medicine. What’s interesting is that the Moldovan people have a good attitude towards us, but the ruling elite stands for its own interests,” the pensioner noted.

On January 1, Moldova unexpectedly began to levy customs duties on goods from Pridnestrovian companies. Economic agents of the PMR actually fell under double taxation. The duties go to the budget of Moldova, which is not connected with the social system of Pridnestrovie. According to preliminary data from the State Customs Committee of the PMR, damage to Pridnestrovie could amount to $16 million a year. One of the consequences of these duties will be an increase in prices.
