Russia is responsible for the security of Pridnestrovie, and the peacekeeping mandate of the Russian Federation was agreed with all parties of the conflict. This was stated in an interview with TASS by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergei Lavrov, commenting on the Pridnestrovian issue.
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russian Federation recalled that about 250 thousand Russian citizens live in Pridnestrovie.
“Of course we are responsible for them. First of all, this is our peacekeeping contingent and a group of troops guarding a huge ammunition depot in Kolbasna. And we have a mandate that was agreed at the time with all the parties. We are convinced that this mandate fully retains its relevance, we will be guided by it <...> I want to say again that Russia is responsible for security in Pridnestrovie in full accordance with the mandate that our servicemen have," Sergei Lavrov said.
At the same time, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russian Federation added that the general situation in Pridnestrovie had degraded as a result of the anti-Russian and anti-Pridnestrovian policy that the Moldovan government, headed by President Maia Sandu, decided to pursue, including the adoption of the so-called law "on separatism."
“Unfortunately, the 5 + 2 format is, in fact, frozen, to a large extent this was facilitated by the line of the West, which decided to take the “settlement” into its own hands, to impose this settlement on Tiraspol and fully supports the confrontational, short-sighted, dead-end policy of President Sandu ", Lavrov said.
Also, according to the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russian Federation, the leadership of Ukraine plays a negative role in the settlement of the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian conflict, “which, violated its status of mediator in the 5 + 2 format and clearly took the side of Chisinau” and “demonstrates its readiness to intervene in this process, including with the use of force".
