Tiraspol, March 28. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The Peace Agreement of 1992 and the peacekeeping mechanism on the Dniester created in accordance with it should not only be preserved, but protected as much as possible by all those international mediators who are truly aimed at peace, stability and security in the region.
This opinion was expressed in an interview with Radio 1 by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pridnestrovie, Vitaly Ignatiev.
“Everyone is talking about peace: Moldova, the OSCE, and the United States. There are no questions, but then it is necessary to support and protect our peacekeeping operation,” the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pridnestrovie stressed.
He recalled that the peacekeeping mission under the auspices of Russia initially created the conditions for the current political negotiation process between Tiraspol and Chisinau.
Vitaly Ignatiev said that the calls of certain forces in the Republic of Moldova to withdraw from the 1992 Agreement are provocative. Such calls, in particular, were made in mid-March by the Moldovan right-wing non-parliamentary party CUB (“Coalition for Unity and Welfare”).
“The position of both Pridnestrovie and Russia is that it is unacceptable to destroy the only reliable foundation of peace and security on the Dniester, and it is especially unacceptable to do this in the current conditions of global and regional instability,” the Minister of Foreign Affairs of PMR noted.
Recall that the peacekeeping mission under the auspices of Russia on the Dniester began in July 1992, after the signing of a peace agreement that put an end to Moldova's armed aggression against Pridnestrovie. The peacekeeping operation in the region is recognized by experts as one of the most successful in the world practice.
