Tiraspol, July 21. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The economic blockade of Pridnestrovie by Moldova can further aggravate relations between the banks of the Dniester and unfreeze the conflict. Aleksey Polishchuk, Director of the Second CIS Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry said about this during the round table “Participation of the Russian Federation in the peacekeeping operation in Pridnestrovie. 30 years of peace and stability in the region.”
The leader noted that the success of the peacekeeping mission would not have been possible without the mutual consent of the parties, which is one of the basic principles of peacekeeping. The very composition of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces, which consists of the military contingents of the parties to the conflict and the Russian Federation, is unique.
“Subsequent experience confirmed the lack of alternatives to this format, this bundle that determined the main elements of the operation’s mandate: it is the prevention of hostilities, the maintenance of stability and the provision of conditions for peace negotiations,” Alexey Polishchuk said.
The events of today prove the relevance of another principle of settlement laid down at that time - the inadmissibility of sanctions and blockades.
“The return to use of elements of the economic blockade of Pridnestrovie by Ukraine and Moldova is able to further aggravate relations between the banks of the Dniester and unfreeze the conflict with all the consequences. This should not be allowed,” the diplomat stressed.
