Vadim Krasnoselsky: Peacekeepers should continue to be the guarantor of peace and security in Pridnestrovie

The President stressed that over the 30 years of its existence, this format has shown the highest degree of efficiency

Tiraspol, July 19. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. During the meeting of the President of the PMR with Ambassador-at-Large of the RF Ministry of Foreign Affairs Vitaly Tryapitsyn, the topic of peacekeeping has not gone unnoticed. Vadim Krasnoselsky recalled that on July 29 Pridnestrovie would celebrate the 30th anniversary of the peacekeeping operation.

“The project is unique, the mission is joint. In addition to the peacekeepers of Russia, the peacekeepers of Pridnestrovie and the peacekeepers of Moldova also participate in it. There were observers from Ukraine, but they have been temporarily withdrawn from Pridnestrovie so far. Nevertheless, the basic component is the Russian Federation,” he said.

The head of state emphasized that over the 30 years of its existence, this format has shown the highest degree of its effectiveness in maintaining peace and security in Pridnestrovie.

“Even those who vote in Europe for the recognition of the Pridnestrovian territory as occupied by the Russian Federation understand all this. They understand perfectly well that Russia guarantees peace here. So what, do they need a war? Are those who want the withdrawal of the peacekeeping forces thinking about war? Although everyone is talking about peace. That is why I want an appropriate document to be signed to guarantee peace. And the Pridnestrovian people and the leadership of Pridnestrovie are grateful to Russia for maintaining peace and security in Pridnestrovie. I am sure that peacekeepers should continue to be the guarantor of peace and security in Pridnestrovie,” Vadim Krasnoselsky stressed.

Recall: the armed aggression of Moldova against Pridnestrovie was stopped under the mediation of Russia. On July 21, 1992, the Presidents of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Moldova, in the presence of the President of the PMR, signed agreements that launched the peaceful process of settling the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian conflict.

Peacekeeping functions were assigned to the Joint Peacekeeping Forces from among the Russian, Moldovan, and Pridnestrovian military personnel. This format is considered unique: previously, representatives of the conflicting parties did not participate together in peacekeeping operations.

On July 27, a governing body was created that led the peacekeeping operation, the Joint Control Commission (JCC). It determined the procedure for bringing the Joint Peacekeeping Forces into the Security Zone.

On July 29, a Russian peacekeeping contingent entered the Security Zone.

In 1998, Ukraine, as well as representatives of the OSCE mission, joined the peacekeeping operation through the institution of military observers.

Experts admit that the peacekeeping mechanism operating in Pridnestrovie is the most successful in the history of peacekeeping.
