Tiraspol, March 21. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe is known for its extremely agenda-driven position and biased resolutions. This is said in a statement issued by the independent Human Rights Center Pridnestrovian Meridian. It is dedicated to the resolution adopted by PACE on March 15, 2022.
The statement of Pridnestrovian human rights activists notes that the resolution is declarative and will not entail any practical steps. It duplicates Chisinau's official position, while its content does not stand up to scrutiny.
Pridnestrovie is an independent state, which was established democratically. Meanwhile, everyone is well aware of who unleashed the war on the Dniester and who stopped it. The misbehavior of PACE, which is expressed in attempts to rewrite history, will result in severe reputational expenses for this oldest European organization.
“Please note that in modern realities, any attacks against the peacekeeping operation on the Dniester, which has been proving its effectiveness for 30 years and has earned the trust of the population, look, in fact, as a frank attempt to destabilize the situation. In this context, we call on the international community to take a more objective and balanced approach to assessments and be aware of the consequences of decisions made,” the statement says.
Here is the text of the statement:
Statement on the Resolution of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe of 15 March 2022.
The independent Human Rights Center Pridnestrovian Meridian drew attention to the resolution of the PACE adopted on March 15 and the wording used in it accusing the Russian Federation of an alleged “act of military aggression against the Republic of Moldova” and the so-called “occupation of its Pridnestrovian region”.
First of all, we remind you that the PACE resolutions are declarative and do not affect real interaction. That is, the adoption of this resolution does not entail practical steps, for example, the withdrawal of Moldova or other signatories from the peacekeeping operation or the negotiation process with Pridnestrovie.
It is also worth noting that the wording used in the resolution is not even a PACE product, but duplicates Chisinau`s official position, enshrined in the Resolution of the Constitutional Court of Moldova dated May 2, 2017. This document refers to the so-called Russian "armed forces of occupation" and "military occupation of part of the territory of the Republic of Moldova" (p. 180, 181, etc.). Unfortunately, PACE is known for its extremely agenda-driven position and biased resolutions. Suffice it to recall the ECtHR decision in the case of Ilashku and others against Moldova and Russia.
The content also does not stand up to scrutiny. Firstly, Pridnestrovie is an independent state established through a nationwide referendum. And secondly, they still remember who started the war on the Dniester and who stopped it. Attempts to rewrite history in the angle they need are unworthy behavior, bearing severe reputational expenses for the oldest international political organization on the continent.
Please note that in modern realities, any attacks against the peacekeeping operation on the Dniester, which has been proving its effectiveness for 30 years and has earned the trust of the population, look, in fact, as a frank attempt to destabilize the situation. In this context, we call on the international community to take a more objective and balanced approach to assessments and be aware of the consequences of decisions made.
