Tiraspol, January 22. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The defenders of Pridnestrovie commented on the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maya Sandu`s statements, that Russia provoked the war on the Dniester in 1992 to obstruct the process of gaining independence by Moldova.
One of the participants in those events, the defender of the PMR, the military ataman of the Black Sea Cossack army, Igor Nebeigolova, said that the Moldovan leader`s words had nothing to do with the truth.
“First of all, what she says is a lie. It is clear right away. Second, we didn't attack. If, as she says, someone would oppose Moldova, they would probably attack Moldova, and not Moldova attacked us,” Igor Nebeigolova emphasized.
Ataman stated that Russia tried not to interfere in the conflict then, and if Chisinau had not started hostilities, all disagreements could have been resolved peacefully. What Pridnestrovie called for.
“After all, Pridnestrovie offered various political methods at first, to which Moldova refused. And in the end, the Republic of Moldova decided to use armed forces against the civilian population of Pridnestrovie. I considered it my duty to protect my land, my family, my loved ones,” Igor Nebeigolova said.
Pavel Kuznetsov, the head of the republican public organization “Disabled Veterans - Defenders of Pridnestrovie” suggested Maya Sandu reread the history of those events and remember that the initial cause of the conflict was the radical nationalism policy, which the Moldovan leadership adopted.
“The reason was the growth of nationalism in Moldova, transition to the Latin alphabet, prohibition of the Russian language, Romanianization, Romanian flag, Romanian anthem, denial of everything that connects us with Russia, with our history. This was, and this remains the main reason. That's all,” the defender of Pridnestrovie said.
Pavel Kuznetsov stressed that the statements to the effect that Russia sent people to Pridnestrovie to confront Moldova were untenable. Residents, representatives of labor collectives were the first to defend Pridnestrovie. Volunteers from Russia came here later when the conflict went into the full-scale war.
“I worked at a factory, and the first people to come were the factory workers. The Joint Council of Labor Collectives were the first. When the guards were created, we walked in the direction of the factories. Nobody came here from Russia. It was later when the war was going on, very few people, volunteers came here, and that’s all. That was 1992, the height of the war,” Pavel Kuznetsov recalls.
According to the chairman of the republican public organization, Maya Sandu is trying to distort the truth with her words.
“She just absolutely turned everything on its head, as it is now done in the West” the defender of Pridnestrovie stressed.
