Tiraspol, June 21. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The Russian Foreign Ministry discussed holding a meeting in the 5 + 2 format on the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian settlement. This was announced by the OSCE Secretary General Helga Schmid.
“We touched upon Pridnestrovian issues, considered the question of the 3 + 2 meeting format and the possibility of 5+2 meetings format holding this year. Supposedly, they will also be sufficiently productive addition to our work” the Secretary General noted.
The OSCE potential as a platform for dialogue on the problems settlement, including the conflict between Moldova and Pridnestrovie was emphasized by the Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov.
Negotiations in the 5 + 2 format began to lag in recent years against the political instability in Moldavia backdrop, and then because of the coronavirus pandemic. In January the parties were called by the OSCE, appearing as a mediator in the Pridnestrovian settlement, for implementing commitments they assumed following the negotiations in Berlin (in the year of 2016) as well as Vienna (in the year of 2017). Pridnestrovie has fulfilled all its obligations, while Chisinau is in no hurry to fulfill agreements.
Such obligations as mutual officials’ criminal indictment, establishment of direct-telephone communication between two Dniester river banks, a guarantee mechanism of the reach arrangements implementation development, and others remain unfulfilled.
The 5 + 2 format is a “Permanent Conference on political issues within the framework of negotiation process on the Pridnestrovian settlement.” Moldova and Pridnestrovie are serving in it as parties to the conflict, Russia, Ukraine and the OSCE are mediators, the EU and the United States are observers.
On June 3, the negotiation process mediators as well as observers arrived in Pridnestrovie on a working visit, during which they met with the PMR President Vadim Krasnoselky.
