Tiraspol, December 1. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. On the air of the Russia 24 TV channel the Head of the Pridnestrovian delegation to the Joint Control Commission (JCC), Oleg Belyakov, commented on the newly elected President of Moldova Maya Sandu`s statement on the need to withdraw Russian peacekeepers from Pridnestrovie.
He recalled that the peacekeeping operation in the PMR began because of the armed conflict between Pridnestrovie and Moldova.
“Moldovan armed units have practically entered the territory of Pridnestrovie. Russia brought the Moldovan and Pridnestrovian sides to the negotiating table,” Oleg Belyakov said.
On July 21, 1992, there was signed an agreement on the principles of a peaceful settlement of the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian conflict. At the same time, Russia, as a guarantor country, introduced its military units into the security zone, on the basis of which joint peacekeeping forces were created.
Oleg Belyakov emphasized that this status quo has been maintained for 29 years. Russia guarantees peace and security, and the conflicting parties, within the framework of the peacekeeping operation regime, still have the opportunity to agree on all issues that occur both in the security zone and between parties.
The Co-Chairman of the JCC stressed that the Russian peacekeeping operation in Pridnestrovie is considered to be one of the most successful in history. Since 1992, hostilities have not resumed, not a single soldier died.
“For 29 years, there have been confiscated a lot of weapons, ammunition left after the events of 92 and even during the Great Patriotic War. Regular contact is maintained with local authorities and law enforcement agencies. All this creates a positive of peaceful life, and it cannot be disturbed today,” Oleg Belyakov emphasized.
