Russian expert: Pridnestrovie should be either independent or a part of Russia

Bogdan Bespalko, member of the Russian Council for Interethnic Relations under Presidential Executive, notes that Pridnestrovie and Moldova have already been formed as different states

Pridnestrovie and Moldova have existed separately for many decades, and they have developed their own state organisms. At the same time, the Moldo-Pridnestrovian conflict is still not exhausted. The member of the Russian Council for Interethnic Relations under Presidential Executive Bogdan Bespalko stated this to the REGNUM News Agency. He responded to a request to comment on the recent statement of the President of Moldova Igor Dodon that ''Nobody recognises Pridnestrovie, and it has no future separate from Moldova.''

According to the expert, Moldova still seeks to be a unitary nationalist state, and therefore in reality ''Pridnestrovie represented by its inhabitants, its established political elites, will not want to join to such Moldova,'' even if its president will be a formally ''pro-Russian'' leader, as Igor Dodon.

''First of all, his ''pro-Russian'' policy is doubtful. Second, he may leave or he may be suspended from power, as it was, for example, with Viktor Yanukovych. After that, the Moldovan policy towards Pridnestrovie may change dramatically. There can be various kinds of discriminatory practices. Evidence shows they are introduced by all post-Soviet republics against the Russian population,'' Bespalko noded.

The expert believes that the most optimal solution would be the entry of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic into the Russia Federation following the example of Crimea. Besides Pridnestrovie has been associated itself with Russia Federation for a long time. There live tens and hundreds of thousands of Russian citizens. The Russian tricolour is one of Pridnestrovie state flags. All the facts support such a solution, continued Bespalko.

''Basically, Pridnestrovie is a fragment of Russia in the post-Soviet space. Therefore, I consider it is worthy to think not about Dodon's proposals or his emotional assessments, not about the federation or confederation, levelled by the Moldovan leadership, but namely about the support of Pridnestrovie either as a sovereign state or as an independent political entity, which in the future will become part of the Russian Federation.''
