Tiraspol, January 16. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Today, the Ministry of Economic Development presented a program on waste management. It should be recalled, the working group on its creation was formed in the Government in 2019.
The program includes five stages: a separate collection of wastes, sorting of Municipal solid waste (MSW), composting of organic wastes, pyrolysis (thermal decomposition) of industrial wastes and non-processed residues after composting and disposal of wastes at specialized landfills.
According to Deputy Chairman of the Government, Minister of Economic Development Sergei Obolonik, the developed set of measures will create in Pridnestrovie conditions, under which only a small part of all garbage collected in the republic will be received at landfills.
“The integrated approach includes the organization of separate garbage collection and the construction of processing plants. Those wastes that may be recycled will be recovered and sold. The rest can be burned in large volumes at pyrolysis plants. As a result, only 5% of garbage will remain, which will be removed to polygons,” Sergey Obolonik explained.
The program also provides the creation of plants processing organic materials. With their help, it would be possible to obtain compost necessary in agriculture.
“Creating the program, we first studied the problems established in Pridnestrovie. The experience of Russia and Europe also studied. Solutions suitable for our republic were chosen,” Director of the Pridnestrovian Investment Agency, Andrey Betanov said.
According to experts, this program will allow solving the problem of garbage in the republic within 4-5 years.
"The separation of household waste has still an economic component. Our municipal enterprises can still earn on it. In addition, there are investors who would like to work in this industry in Pridnestrovie. For this purpose, a regulatory framework must be created, there must be a state program to work with waste and its disposal," Sergey Obolonik stressed.
The program will be presented to public organizations and the Government. After that, the Supreme Council will begin to work out the necessary normative acts for its implementation.
It should be noted that every year about 730 thousand cubic meters of waste is accumulated in the republic. Currently, there are 8 landfills and more than 100 temporary waste storage places on the territory of the PMR. A new plant on waste segregation was launched in Tiraspol in October 2017. Every day about 100 tons of garbage are collect there.
