Kirill Shamshurin from Tiraspol became the winner of the World Championship in a marathon

This is the first medal in the of Russian rowing history at marathon distances

Tiraspol, October 24. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The World Championship in kayaking and canoeing at marathon distances was hosted by the Chinese city of Shaoxing. The World Marathon Championship was held in Asia for the second time in history. Ponds are the attraction of Shaoxing. Among them, Didang Lake, which competitions were held on, was amazingly beautiful.

Medals were awarded in three age groups, including among youth and juniors. The program included marathon and shortened distances. Trainee of the Tiraspol School of Rowing and Shooting took part in the world marathon championship for the third time. And for the first time in the history of Russian and Pridnestrovian rowing, he made it to the medalists.

The 20 strongest rowers of the planet took part in this race, five of them could not finish the distance. The Spaniard Manuel Kampos won the championship for the 4th time. The second with a lag of 18 seconds was the Czech Jakub Brezin. After 8 seconds, Kirill Shamshurin finished the distance. He overcame a distance of 25.9 km in 2 hours 5 minutes. 50.13 seconds.

“A very decent company has gathered in China from among the winners of European and world marathons. 20 km was normal, the next six were harder, while in the last 800 meters my muscles cramped. I prayed to God to finish as soon as possible. I’m very pleased with the bronze medal, it’s doubly nice that it is the first one in the history of Russian rowing at the marathon,” the athlete said in an interview with Moscow Today.

Hungary excelled in the medal standings - 21 medals, of which 9 were gold. Spain took second place, while Denmark took third one.

Kirill Shamshurin played for the Moscow region. This season has been the most successful of his career. Athlete from Tiraspol is a leader by a large margin in the Russian ranking. In addition to medals at international competitions, he won an Olympic license at a distance of 1000 meters in a canoe-pair for the Russian Federation. Now the main task for the athlete is to prepare well for the Tokyo Olympics and qualifying starts. To get into the Olympic team, you need to confirm the title of the strongest crew in Russia with the partner next year.
