Tiraspol, June 19. / Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Attack of the armed divisions of Moldova on Bendery in June 1992 became a non-return point to make the RM and the PMR united state. Before Moldova rejected all offers of Pridnestrovie at uniting and launched a war. It was said on June 27, 1992, by the first President of the PMR Igor Smirnov in an interview to the «Izvestia» Newspaper.
«To a course towards the creation of the sovereign state we were led by an objective succession of events. The first that the Left bank wanted, – economic independence. They had turned us away. The following offer (based on the will of the people) was given to the eastern regions the status of the autonomous republic. They had turned us away again. Our third offer – about the federal structure of Moldova – had also been rejected. After barbaric destruction of Bendery, after large-scale fighting which can be conducted only against the hated enemy our people will never agree to be «a part Moldova», – Igor Smirnov told.
He also noted that only people haв to define the future of Pridnestrovie.
«No congress, parliament, meeting and so on have the right to decide for the people. The referendum has granted to us the right to create the independent state», – Smirnov emphasized.
In 1989-90 in the territory of Pridnestrovie there was the referendum on the formation of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic. Generally, more than ¾ citizens voted.
On December 1, 1991, the referendum on the independence of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic took place. The voter turnout had made 78%, for 97.7% of voters.
On September 17, 2006, the referendum on the independence of the PMR and the subsequent free accession to the Russian Federation took place. The voter turnout had made 78.55%, for 97.1% of voters.
