Bendery, May, 13. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Statements by the representatives of the official Chisinau about the ammunition in the village of Kolbasnoye are related not to technical, but to political moments. This opinion was expressed in an interview with Novosti Pridnestrovya by the Co-chairman of the Joint Control Commission (the governing body of the peacekeeping operation on the Dniester), Oleg Belyakov.
It should be reminded that during the meeting of the Vice Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Christina Lesnik with the OSCE Special Representative for the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian settlement process Franco Frattini, the Moldovan politician called for an inspection at these warehouses. “These munitions can trigger a crisis, and it’s important to determine what constitutional authorities can do to ensure security,” she said.
According to Oleg Belyakov, these warehouses are under the exclusive authority of the Russian Federation, which ensures the safety of the facility.
“Before making such proposals, it is necessary to know the opinion of the Russian side itself. It (ammunition) is under reliable protection and maintenance of Russian specialists who know thoroughly about their technical condition. No slightest incidents have occurred in these warehouses over the decades,” the Co-chair stressed.
