THIS YEAR MORE THAN 50 HECTARES OF YOUNG FOREST APPEARED IN PRIDNESTROVIE

Experts of the PMR Ministry of Agriculture planted white acacia, European ash, English oak, Crimean pine and American walnut

Tiraspol, March, 19. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. In order to expand forest cover and increase the area covered with forest, more than 50 hectares of forest plantations were created on the lands of the Pridnestrovian State Forest Fund in the first quarter of 2019, including about 20 hectares planted on cuttings and forested more than 20 hectares of newly adopted lands.

The press service of the PMR Ministry of Agriculture notes that the largest percentage of planting is concentrated in the areas of the republic with the lowest coefficient of forest cover, namely Slobodzeya and Grigoriopol.

The main range of forest-forming species is white acacia, European ash, English oak, Crimean pine and American walnut. The Department of Forestry and Hunting Resources of the PMR Ministry of Agriculture notes that along with new forests creation in 2019, supplementing with forest crops was made on an area of 58 hectares.

Good rates of natural regeneration (natural regrowth) were observed on all clear cuttings in the spring of 2018. The fresh shoots of white poplar reach a height of 1–1.5 meters, while white acacia fresh shoots reach a height of 1.5–2 meters.
