Tiraspol, February, 4. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The delegation of the United Nations headed by the UN Human Rights Senior Expert Thomas Hammarberg arrived in Tiraspol.
It is the seventh visit of the expert to Tiraspol that confirms close attention of the UN to a situation in our republic, emphasized during the meeting with the delegation the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR Vitaly Ignatiev. According to him, cooperation with the UN is followed by subject work positive results of which are already suffered by the population.
«The right measuring subject for Pridnestrovie has priority character as there are objective reasons of problems in this area connected with lack of regulation of the conflict with Moldova. We are convinced that all issues in this part need to be resolved proceeding from human rights as the main priority. We are very grateful to the efforts of mister Hammarberg and his team in this direction and we hope to expand forms of cooperation. In particular, we suggested developing the program and the action plan on the prospect», - noted during communication with the media Vitaly Ignatiev.
In turn, Thomas Hammarberg reminded that he following the results of the last visit in May-June, 2018 prepared the new 40-page report which will be submitted to the public tomorrow. At the same time, the expert of the UN emphasized that the previous recommendations which were contained in the report of 2013 «were seriously analysed by the authorities of Pridnestrovie with the connection of several ministries and departments. Then the emphasis was placed on social problems».
«We made several proposals designed to improve a situation in the field of human rights protection. Spoke about physically disabled people, about women who face domestic violence, HIV-positive people. Noted progress in the field of human rights protection in Pridnestrovie, having emphasized those positive steps which were taken for improvement of a situation in the field», – the UN expert told.
In particular, Thomas Hammarberg stated noticeable advance in the field of protection of the rights of the physically disabled people and persons who are contained in institutions of pre-trial detention forward.
«Physically disabled people suffer in any country of the world. It is very important that society, in general, understood what problems and difficulties they face, and treated them respectively. In Pridnestrovie in this area there is an improvement», - the expert of the UN paid attention.
Today Thomas Hammarberg will hold a meeting with the Human Rights Commissioner.
