Sergey Obolonik on SPIEF: we are on trend

Our delegation is promoting the Pridnestrovian investment legislation at an economic forum in St Petersburg

Tiraspol, 25 May. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The Pridnestrovian delegation, led by Minister of Economic Development Sergey Obolonik, is taking part in several sessions on public administration and economic problems which are being held simultaneously at the St Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2018).

As Sergey Obolonik noted in his interview with Novosti Pridnestrovya, the forum's main vector is to identify tasks and goals that the new Russian government will be implementing.

"Basically, the development strategy of the economy focuses on attracting investments, with the ideas of creating properly oriented investment legislation wandering. That is, those issues are discussed that, in principle, have already been voiced in our country, and some of them have become laws in the PMR, the minister said. "It's very pleasant to hear that we are not just following the trend, but in some cases, we have already done what is now being implemented and spoken out at the forum."

According to Sergey Obolonik, the participation of our delegation in the SPIEF-2018 is useful in the sense that the mechanisms used to organise this forum can also be used during the organisation of the Pridnestrovian International Investment Economic Forum this autumn.

"This is a kind of report of the state administration bodies to the business community, to citizens. We'll be pursuing the same tasks; that is, the forum will be comprehensive. The development and popularization of our investment policy are how we see the development of our economy, and an attempt to convey this to all people concerned: to foreign and domestic investors, to citizens," said the minister.

The minister said that an agreement had already been reached on a visit of a Moscow Oblast government delegation to the economic forum.

"This region has moved far enough in the direction of an effective investment policy. We hope that their visit will not only help us to assess the efficiency of investment support that we are implementing but also to communicate directly with Russian businessmen," said Sergey Obolonik.

It is also planned to popularize the Pridnestrovian investment legislation among European businessmen.

"We already have real intentions to sign contracts with Europeans. I think in this case this will also attract other investors or those who are engaged in investment policy in their own countries, maybe officials of other states," concluded Sergey Obolonik.

The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2018) is held from 24 to 26 May. This year, the forum has set a new record in terms of the number of participants with over 15,000 registered businessmen, politicians and journalists from 140 countries.
