Vadim Krasnoselsky: Czechoslovakia's model of civilised divorce very important for Pridnestrovie

The president said this during his meeting with Slovak ambassador to Moldova Dusan Dacho

Tiraspol, 5 April. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Pridnestrovian President Vadi Krasnoselsky met Slovak ambassador to Moldova Dusan Dacho. It was the first meeting in such a format for the Slovak diplomat, the presidential press service reports.

Stressing the importance of developing cooperation between Pridnestrovie and Slovakia, Vadim Krasnoselsky drew attention to the opportunity to discuss trade and economic contacts, as well as the current situation in the negotiation process with the Republic of Moldova.

The president expressed readiness to identify Pridnestrovie's position on issues of interest to the ambassador, stressing the significance of Slovakia's experience in the context of the settlement of the Moldo-Pridnestrovian conflict. According to Vadim Krasnoselsky, the model of Czechoslovakia's civilised divorce, also known as "velvet divorce," is fundamentally important for Pridnestrovie.

"One cannot project one historical reality to another, but nevertheless your experience is of particular interest to us," said Vadim Krasnoselsky. "What happened on 1 January 1993 is the first time in history when a country was successfully split in a civilized way. Indeed, each situation requires a special approach; we must pay attention to the specifics in each case, take into account the specifics, the situation," Dusan Dacho confirmed the president's words.

Vadim Krasnoselsky noted that it is not the "divorce" that is of special interest for Pridnestrovie but rather the subsequent coexistence of divided territories: their cultural, economic and humanitarian interaction.

Noting that Slovakia will take over the OSCE Chairmanship on 1 January  2019, the ambassador stressed that his country was already actively preparing for this mission, studying all the issues that fall under the OSCE's jurisdiction.

According to Dusan Dacho, the negotiation process between Pridnestrovie and Moldova is one of the topics that are far more interesting to the Slovak side. "Slovakia is attentive to what is happening here, perhaps in a more sensitive way than other members of the EU. It is natural. For Italy, France, Spain, what is happening in North Africa seems closer. We say: a shirt is closer to the body than a coat. Therefore, we are looking at the Moldo-Pridnestrovian issue with different eyes, with a different attitude," said the ambassador, stressing that his country's priority in this direction is the stability and prosperity of the region.

The interlocutors paid attention to the development of Pridnestrovian-Slovak relations, discussing their practical implementation. They stressed the positive and productive nature of the meeting and agreed to continue working contacts.
