Round table on political and legal grounds of Pridnestrovie's independence held in Moscow

It is attended by Pridnestrovian President Vadim Krasnoselsky

Tiraspol, 21 November. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The roundtable conference "The political and legal foundations for international recognition of Pridnestrovie's independence" started at the Federal Chamber of Lawyers. Representatives of the Russian and Pridnestrovian authorities, lawyers, historians, political scientists and public figures had been invited to take part in the international discussion. The Pridnestrovian delegation includes President Krasnoselsky, vice speaker Galina Antyufeyeva, foreign minister Vitaly Ignatyev, ambassador at large Ruslan Slobidenyuk, the president's press service reports.

The purpose of the event is to exchange views, determine the prospects for the country's recognition and ways to intensify work in this direction, prepare and publicise the legal opinion on the international status of Pridnestrovie, as well as to present the publication "Pridnestrovie:  Legal Basis for Independence".

The conference was opened by Vadim Krasnoselsky. He thanked the attendees for ершу attention to the fate of Pridnestrovie. The president stressed the significance of holding that event at Russia's Federal Chamber of Lawyers.

"The topic of international recognition of Pridnestrovie is relevant and vital for the people of Pridnestrovie. Some 500,000 people live in Pridnestrovie today. They are all Russian compatriots, 220,000 of whom have Russian passports. Pridnestrovie is an islet of the Russian world. I am concerned, however, that, unfortunately, even in Russia few people clearly know what happens in Pridnestrovie. Yes, some people know about the armed conflict. They know a lot about the peacekeeping operation, the negotiating process. But few people do know in detail what are the basis for the future recognition of Pridnestrovie," noted Krasnoselsky.

Speaking about the prospects for Pridnestrovie's international recognition, Krasnoselsky recalled that it was based on a historic title: "Pridnestrovie is an established modern state with all the attributes of power — its president, parliament, government, judicial system, economy, currency, banking sphere."

The draft advisory opinion on the international legal status of Pridnestrovie, which has been prepared by a large team of experts, was presented by the president of the Russia Academy of Lawyers and Notaries, Gennady Chermnykh.

Pridnestrovie's foreign minister, Vitaly Igntyev, thanked the team of experts for their work, whose results are significant both for the foreign ministry and the country as a whole.

Ignatyev presented the publication compiled by Pridnestrovian specialists "Pridnestrovie: Legal Basis for Independence". According to him, the topic is interesting due to the global geopolitical processes.

"The current global trends in the emergence of new states show that the changing shape of the world map is an objective process," noted the minister, recalling the establishment of more than three dozen new states in recent decades.

It was noted that the growing interest generated a request for relevant and reliable information on Pridnestrovie. The publication, designed to fill the information vacuum around the country, was printed in English and Russian, Ignatyev said. It is based on key excerpts from Krasnoselsky's speech at the Oxford Union, a detailed analysis of the legal basis for Pridnestrovie's independence, supported by relevant documents. Calling a period of non-recognition as an objective factor in the world history, Vitaly Ignatyev underscored "it is time to proceed to the stage of recognising Pridnestrovie."
