Tiraspol, 17 November. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. In an interview with Russia's Nezavisimaya Gazeta, Pridnestrovian President Vadim Krasnoselsky commented on a statement by the Moldovan president about Ukraine as a possible integration option for Pridnestrovie.
"I recall that in 1918 Tiraspol was part of the Odessa People's Republic, which was established right after the Bolshevik coup of 1917. And even then the Pridnestrovians of that territorial entity wanted to live in the RSFSR [Soviet Russia]. Then that republic was pulverised by the Civil War, military intervention, and in 1932 it became part of Ukraine. And we found ourselves in the Moldavian Autonomous SSR, which was part of Ukraine. Hardly will anyone ever attempt to return us to Ukraine. Moreover, who knows what should be given in return," underscored the president.
Vadim Krasnoselsky called "dangerous" such an initiative by Kiev.
"We are independent with established institutions of power. Besides, we are self-sufficient. And sooner or later we'll be recognised based on our independence. And today Pridnestrovie is a guarantor of the peaceful existence of people on the Dniester banks. Why are our people close to Russia? There is an answer to this question? People of 32 nationalities live in Pridnestrovie. And we don't have a titular nation. In the meantime, Moldova has a titular nation, and Ukraine is moving in this direction. There are 92 nationalities in Russia and no move towards this concept. No nation is singled out. It is the international spirit that makes us close to Russia. We don't divide people by nationality and language. All nationalities are equal here. We are in favour of a tolerant society. But it is based on our age-old traditions, which exclude any nationalism and humiliation of man on racial grounds. We seek a place where people of similar spirit live," concluded the president.
