Krasnoselsky explains why Pridnestrovie has the right to independence

According to the president, the PMR's territory is not historically related to Moldova, with Kishinev having abandoned Pridnestrovie when it recognised the formation of the MSSR illegal

Tiraspol, 1 September. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Pridnestrovie has established itself as a full-fledged member of the international community and proved itself as a responsible participant in international relations, as an equal party in the negotiating process on the Moldo-Pridnestrovian settlement. This was said by President Krasnoselsky at a grand meeting dedicated to Republic Day.

In his speech, Krasnoselsky explained why Pridnestrovie had the right to independence, mentioning historical and legal facts. First, the president recalled that the Moldavian statehood had never extended beyond the Dniester's right bank

«The territories of Pridnestrovie and Moldova were parts of different administrative entities of the Russian Empire," noted Krasnoselsky.

After that, according to him, when the Empire collapsed in 21917, Pridnestrovie continued to exist separately from Bessarabia, which was occupied by Romania in contravention of previous agreements. The Moldavian Autonomous SSR was formed on the Dniester's left bank to preserve the Moldovan ethnos and culture, which was discontinued in August 1940 as it was united with the liberated Bessarabia. This is how the Moldovan SSR was established. Only since that time and until 1990 were the territories of Pridnestrovie and Bessarabia legally and formally united into the MSSR, Krasnoselsky explained.

But 50 years later, in 1990, Kishinev recognised the formation of the MSSR illegal. Thus, the president noted, the situation legally returned to 1940, excluding from Moldova its state-forming part, MASSR, that is, Pridnstrovie.

«This decision by the Moldovan parliament has effectively abandoned Pridnestrovie. Legally abandoned!», underscored Krasnoselsky.

«What were Pridnestrovians supposed to do? Taking into account Moldova's decision and based on Pridnestrovians' will of 2 September 1990, the Pridnestrovian Moldavian ASSR was proclaimed as part of the Soviet Union," he recalled.

Then, in 1991, Kishinev proclaimed its full independence within the boundaries of historical Bessarabia, naturally without Pridnestrovie. After the Soviet Union's collapse, Pridnestrovie had a complete set of legitimate reasons to declare its statehood, the president noted.

«According to a number of international lawyers, the process of dissolution of the MSSR is one of the classical legal forms where two historically separate parts, which have objective grounds for succession, have emerged out of one state. This is the foundation of our statehood, based on international law and the will of the people," concluded Krasnoselsky.

«With all facts taken together, we can defend our independence in any international court, if, of course, it is impartial," he underscored.

The president noted that Pridnestrovie was a contemporary democratic state, which efficiently controls its territory and has undeniable internal sovereignty.

«We demonstrate openness and adequacy, willingness to fulfil our commitments. While the fundamental principles that form the basis for our foreign policy remain unchanged. This is the independence of the Pridnestroviam Moldavian Republic, its wide international recognition," said Krasnoselsky.
