Tiraspol, 4 July. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. As Novosti Pridnestrovya has already reported, President Krasnoselsky has appointed Vladimir Yastrebchak special representative on relations with Ukraine. Yastrebchak spoke about future plans and directions of his work on the First Pridnestrovian TV channel.
«There is much to be done to minimise [the effect of] the negative actions that can be taken against us and to smooth the current situation," noted Yastrebchak, commenting on the plans and prospects of his work.
It should be done, he explained, in the closest cooperation with relevant authorities, including, first of all, the MFA, presidential administration, Supreme Council and government.
«I also count on the support of our people's diplomats in the person of the assembly of the first Pridnestrovian legislators; another significant factor is the Ukrainians living here and Ukrainian communities. I hope that by joining our efforts we'll try to provide the necessary assistance to Pridnestrovie and make Ukraine resume its status of guarantor and good neighbour," said Yastrebchak.
Pridnestrovians are pragmatic people, Yastrbchak recalled.
«We'll assume we won't expect to see any pro-Russian politicians in Ukraine and Moldova. We'd be glad if Ukrainian politicians were guided by the Ukrainian interests. I am convinced no politician, not statesman in Ukraine who is guided primarily by the interests of his country will ever be involved in a blockade against the PMR or any other restrictions imposed on Pridnestrovie," underscored Yastrebchak.
According to him. the most important task is «to try to convince [Ukrainian politicians] that Ukraine's national interests must prevail.»
«On that basis, I think we'll be able to resolve many problems. This also relates to the border factor, including joint posts and Ukraine's status and role as guarantor and mediator. In general, everything that is embraced by the notion of good neighbourly relations," noted Yastrebchak.
