Tiraspol, 29 June. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The minister of foreign affairs of the PMR, Vitaly Ignatyev, has met his Abkhazian counterpart, Daur Kove. The meeting was also attended by Abkhazian plenipotentiary to Pridnestrovie Alexander Vataman and Abkhazian foreign minister's assistant Irakly Tuzhba.
Welcoming the guests, Vitaly Ignatyev expressed gratitude for their arrival ahead of the 25th anniversary of Pridnestrovie's MFA.
«This is a remarkable event for the entire staff of the foreign ministry and the country as a whole. I am glad to receive the high delegation of the fraternal Republic of Abkhazia in Pridnestrovie," the MFA's press service cites the minister as saying.
Daur Kove, in turn, noted that he was glad to visit the PMR 10 years after his last visit to our country.
During the meeting the parties discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation. Particular attention was paid to the ongoing process of drafting a new treaty on friendship and cooperation between the two countries, as well as to the strengthening of interdepartmental links in various areas. In particular, the discussion referred to the possibility of organising consultations between the foreign ministries of the two countries.
The parties also exchanged views on possible mechanisms for enhancing trade and economic interaction between the fraternal republics. In this context, Vitaly Ignatyev invited Abkhazian representatives to take part in the Pridnestrovian International Economic Forum, which takes place in Tiraspol from 6 to 8 July.
Vitaly Ignatyev informed the Abkhazian colleagues about the current situation in the negotiations between Pridnestrovie and Moldova. According to Ignatyev, the Moldovan side is actually continuing to apply unilateral restrictions against the PMR. The minister underscored that the situation was particularly complicated by a deliberate blockade of the work of the «Permanent Conference…» by a number of its participants. According to Ignatyev, Pridnestrovie is thus denied to convey its position to all participants in the negotiation process.
At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to conduct a substantive analysis of the initiatives voiced during the meeting to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in various spheres.
As part of its visit to Pridnestrovie, the Abkhazian delegation will take part in a meeting of the extended board of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PMR dedicated to its 25th anniversary.
