Tiraspol, 27 June. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Today, the Kishinev office of the OSCE Mission has hosted this year's first meeting of Moldovan and Pridnestrovian expert groups on environmental issues.
The experts focused on the preservation and sustainable use of the Dniester River's aquatic resources, including in the context of fisheries regulation, the MFA's press service reports.
The Moldovan side was informed about the enacting by the Pridnestrovian president of amendments to the law «On fisheries and preservation of aquatic resources in the PMR», prohibiting industrial fishery in all public water facilities of the country for a period of three years.
The experts also discussed possible parameters for setting a general time-limit for the prohibition of fishing during spawning.
The Pridnestrovian side put forward an initiative to undertake research to assess the current state of the Dniester River in the area of the Dubossary Resrvoir. In the same context, it was proposed to resume the discussion of harmonised rules for the exploitation of Dniester reservoirs, which should take into account all the environmental risks arising from the operation of hydraulic facilities.
Following the meeting, the experts agreed to continue work on the topical issues of environmental protection and the state of the Dniester River's ecosystem.
