Kiev openly admits participation in blockading Pridnestrovie

According to Ukraine's ambassador to Moldova Ivan Gnatyshin, the blockade restrictions aim to subordinate Pridnestrovie's trade to Kishinev

Tiraspol, 26 May. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Nobody already denies that plans to establish joint Moldo-Ukrainian control at the border with Pridnestrovie and the 20 May decision to ban the transit of goods subject to veterinary control without Kishinev's approval are actions aimed at destroying Pridnestrovie's economic sovereignty.

Yesterday, 25 May, Ukraine's ambassador to Moldova Ivan Gnatyshin frankly said during a conference on the topical problems of Moldo-Ukrainian relations: «Kiev is seeking to impose a blockade on Pridnestrovie to ensure that the breakaway region's trade is governed by Kishinev.»

The diplomat also promised his Moldovan colleagues that «the border will be certainly closed», apparently referring to his country's long-term intentions. «The border will be certainly closed. We informed the Pridnestrovian authorities about it during meetings and telephone conversations. We told them we'd close the border. So our phytosanitary authorities have imposed restrictions so that Pridnestrovian imports were registered in Kishinev. The problem was solved within two days. I told them: 'Cooperate with Kishinev on export issues: you are in their database. Have your documents stamped in Moldova; there is no Pridnestrovie in the EU.' They have reached a compromise about stamping procedures. We don't interfere," said Ivan Gnatyshin.
