JCC calls on population in Security Zone to voluntarily surrender arms and ammunition

The governing body of the peacekeeping operation hopes that the proposed measures will "significantly reduce the illicit trafficking of these dangerous items in the Security Zone and thereby contribute to greater stability and mutual confidence between the sides"

Bendery, 20 April. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The Joint Control Commission (JCC) has called on citizens living in the Security Zone of the Moldo-Pridnstrovian conflict to voluntarily surrender illegal arms, ammunition, explosives and prohibited items.

The JCC explains that under existing criminal law persons who voluntarily surrender illegal weapons, ammunition, explosives are exempt from criminal, administrative and any other liability.

«Within the framework of the implementation of the Agreement on Principles for Peaceful Settlement of 21 July 1992, the law enforcement bodies of the sides have implemented a set of measures, including preventive ones, to detect and seize illegally stored weapons and ammunition from the population.

«As a result, there has been a significant reduction in registered crimes committed with the use of firearms and explosives and not a single theft of arms has been registered. In the meantime, during its meetings the Joint Control Commission continues to face the issues of abandoned or illegal weapons, ammunition and explosives in the Security Zone," says the JCC’s communique.

The JCC hopes that the proposed measures will significantly reduce the illicit trafficking of these dangerous items in the Security Zone and thereby contribute to greater stability and mutual confidence between the sides.
