President discusses energy security with Gazprom senior executive

The sides also talked about issues related to the transit of Russian gas through Pridnestrovie

Tiraspol, 10 February. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Vadim Keasnoselsky has met today a delegation of Russia's Gazprom leadership, led by deputy chairman of board Valery Golubev. The sides discussed issues related to Pridnestrovie's energy security and the transit of Russian gas through the country.

Valery Golubev noted that the Russian company had already worked with Pridnestrovie for more than 25 years and all those years have been difficult for the republic in political and economic terms.

«The political situation depends on many factors today, and it is probably beyond Gazprom's competence to evaluate all these prospects. But the important work which is being carried out by Pridnestrovie, first of all, the transit of gas to the Balkans, is very valuable for us," said Golubev following the meeting.

He underscored that Gazprom plans to continue cooperation with the Pridnestrovian partners. «Our main aim is that the Pridnestrovian people live in peace, decently; that they have reason to be proud of their country, to raise their children," said the guest.

President Krasnoselsky maintained that it is the energy factor that bears special importance for ensuring a decent living for people. «It is very important for Pridnestrovie to keep its energy security. Because it is a security element of the whole country. Our independence is a guarantee of our security, and energy security is of paramount importance in this regard," underscored the Pridnestrovian president.

The president added that Pridnestrovie is not only interested in maintaining close relations with the Russian energy company at the same level but also in developing them.

«We are not only reliable partners; we are interested in expanding our capabilities, and we will certainly fulfil our obligations with respect of Russian gas transit," noted Vadim Krasnoselsky. According to the president, it is not a one-day task to expand economic cooperation with Gazprom, but Pridnestrovie is ready to handle it.
