Tiraspol, 26 May. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The Public Chamber of the PMR has responded to a declaration released by a number of representatives of Moldovan NGOs about the so-called «the red line of Pridnestrovian settlement».
The statement, which was signed among other persons by former and acting Moldovan diplomats, has called on the Moldovan authorities «to reject vigorously any unilateral assurances proposed or agreed upon within the framework of Pridnestrovian settlement». The statement also notes the inadmissibility of recognising «the elements of the Pridnestrovian statehood».
The «red line» declaration was discussed by members of local public councils in the PMR and at today's meeting of the Public Chamber a statement of reply was adopted. «Provocative statements by a group of pro-Romanian intellectuals indicates the real attitude of the Moldovan elite to the settlement process, which they regard as forced absorption of Pridnestrovie and its transformation into a rightless appendage of Moldova's oligarchic clans," says the statement.
Chamber members state that in this way Moldovan public activists try to help the Moldovan authorities, attempting to suffocate Pridnestrovie instead of holding negotiations, to save face.
«Instead of helping the negotiators to establish a constructive dialogue, the Kishinev signatories impregnate Moldova's public opinion with hatred, demanding as an ultimatum to reject a functional dialogue with Pridnestrovie. We believe that thus the so-called Moldovan 'progressive' society does not have any scruples about showing its real face — primeval nationalism that has nothing in common with a high level of culture and thinking," says the statement of the PMR's Public Chamber.
According to chamber members, such actions demonstrate the immaturity of Moldovan civil society and may also cause an escalation of the Pridnestrovian conflict. In this connection, the Public Chamber calls on the guarantors and mediators in the negotiation process to make an assessment of the «red line» declaration.
«We also find it necessary to emphasise that public organisations of Pridnestrovie will further concentrate their efforts on the consistent and full implementation of the results of the referendum of 17 September 2006. Hysterical appeals and aggressive revanchist attacks by the so-called representatives of the 'civil society' of Moldova prove the necessity of urgent steps in this area. In this connection, the public organisations advocate the decree of the President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic «On the implementation of the results of the referendum of 17 September 2006," says the chamber's statement.
