Tiraspol, 26 September. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The Pridenstrovian activists back President Yevgeny Shevchuk's decree bringing the Pridnestrovian legal framework in line with Russian federal legislation. This is said in a statement released by the Public Chamber of the PMR in response to an appeal by representatives of a number of Moldovan NGOs not to recognise Pridnestrovie's statehood.
The Public Chamber's statement states that on 17 September 2006 over 97% of republican referendum participants voted for the independence of the PMR and its subsequent accession to Russia, and it is of no use challenging the people's choice.
«Scientific debates held in Tiraspol, as well as public survey data, show a high degree of public consolidation around the idea of integration with Russia. The Public Chamber of the PMR observes that today, as well as 10 years ago, all political forces and public organisations in Pridnestrovie voice their support for the foreign policy pursued by the country's leadership," says the chamber's statement.
The public activists underscore that they will further concentrate their efforts in implementing fully and consistently the referendum results. «Hysterical appeals and aggressive revanchist attacks by the so-called representatives of the 'civil society' of Moldova prove the necessity of urgent steps in this area. In this connection, the public organisations advocate the decree of the President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic «On the implementation of the results of the referendum of 17 September 2006'," says the statement.
This statement has been adopted today in response to the appeal of representatives of Moldovan NGOs to the Moldovan authorities not to recognise «the elements of the statehood of Pridnestrovie» and ignore the agreements reached at various negotiation venues. This statement has been also signed by some acting Moldovan diplomats. According to the Public Chamber, this indicates the real position of Moldova's political elite in negotiations with Pridnestrovie.
