Tiraspol, 8 May. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. A large-scale concert marathon together with Russia will take place on 17 September in Tiraspol. It is dedicated to the 10th anniversary of Pridnestrovie's independence referendum.

Yesterday President Yevgeny Shevchuk signed into law a decree «On the implementation of the results of the republican referendum that took place on 17 September 2006». This document particularly stipulates that bringing Pridnestrovie's legal system into line with the federal legislation of the Russian federation is the fundamental principle of the PMR's domestic policy. Earlier, the referendum's date — 17 September 2016 — had been officially declared a memorable day.

Issues relating to preparation for the upcoming holiday were discussed at a meeting at Tiraspol's state administration today. According to the deputy mayor for social development, Natalya Nikiforova, dedicated events would start the following week.

«Thematic classes will be held at schools; cultural institutions will organise thematic exhibitions. The presentation of memorable coins and cancellation of stamps specially issued for this event will start the day of 17 September. The event will begin at 10:00 in Tiraspol Joint Museum," said Natalya Nikiforova.

A holiday concert, which will last until 20:30, will begin on the central square of Tiraspol at 11:00.

Main events, including stage performances, exhibitions and flashmobs, will take place near the Palace of Children and Youth.

«The official part of the programme will last until 12:30. It will be followed by a concert marathon with the involvement of the orchestra of the Interior Ministry, Pridnestrovian State Choir, State Symphonic Orchestra, folk dance and song companies Vatra and Viorika, as well as young talents — students of municipal education facilities," said Nikiforova.

This very day the cinema centre Tiraspol will host a festival of Russian cinema with three films being shown for free.

«From 15:00 to 16:00 roller-skating and bicycle heats will take place to show a healthy lifestyle, the unity and solidarity of Pridnestrovians with the Russian Federation. The central square will be partially blocked during the competition. People of all ages are invited to take part in the competition," said Natalya Nikiforova.

On 17 September 2006 Pridnestrovie held an independence referendum. The citizens of the PMR were to answer two questions: «Do you support the policy towards the independence of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic with its subsequent free accession to the Russian Federation?» and «Do you find it possible to reject the independence of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic with its subsequent accession to the Republic of Moldova?»

The first question received 97.1% of aye votes and 2.3% of nay votes. In response to the second question 3.4% of citizens voted for joining Moldova, and 94.6% voted against it.
