Yevgeny Shevchuk and Dmitry Rogozin say what hinders Russian-Pridnestrovian cooperation

Tiraspol, 6 July. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Relations between Russia and Pridnestrovie are developing in furtherance of the Rogozin-Shevchuk protocol. There are a number of factors, at the same time, hindering intensified cooperation in the trade and economic sphere.

Russia's Vice Premier Dmitry Rogozin and Pridnestrovian President Yevgeny Shevchuk shared their vision of problematic aspects during a briefing for journalists.

According to Russia's vice premier, extreme instability in the countries neighbouring upon Pridnestrovie and the absence of common border with Russia significantly complicate bilateral ties.

«The absence of common border is a problem. To come here in person, it is necessary to cross several state borders, including that with Ukraine, which has turned today into a very unstable, degrading state," said Rogozin.

He recalled that Pridnestrovie used to live under blockade and isolation, but today the situation has worsened.

Dmitry Rogozin noted that mutual contacts are more efficient when established between the subjects equal in size, status and ambitions; therefore, Pridnestrovie will have fewer problems, working with Russian regions rather than with the federal government.

A launch of a cooperation programme between the PMR and Russian regions was announced.

«Today we have agreed to launch a whole programme for the development of relations between Pridnestrovie and Russian regions whose business profile may be of interest for the Pridnestrovian economy," said Russia's vice premier.

The Pridnestrovian president, Yevgeny Shevchuk, also sees the development of relations with regional centres as a new stage in the development of Russo-Pridnestrovian relations.

«We hope to establish with the assistance of the federal centre much broader economic relations with Russian regions. This will become a new stage of developing economic relations with Russia. We see it as a prospect and the next stage in developing the memorandums signed in the Russian Federation," noted the president.

According to the head of state, Pridnestrovie's unrecognised international status deters trade and economic relations with the Russian Federation.

Yevgeny Shevchuk also emphasised the absence of dynamics in the negotiation process, Kishinev's unilateral steps resulted in the aggravation of the economic situation in the PMR, Ukrainian factor, regional and global recession.
